Midwifery Services and Insurance Coverage

  • Most PPO Insurance Plans provide some coverage for care with a Licensed and Certified Midwife!

  • Check your individual insurance plan for maternity coverage with an out-of-network provider may be covered. We are out-of-network providers for PPO insurance plans.

  • We now have a biller: STMBilling.com. We are not contracted with any insurance companies at this time and are an out-of-network provider.

  • HSA (Health Savings Accounts) / Flex-Accounts are usually viable options for paying your midwife.

  • Health Share’s such as Altrua HealthShare, Liberty HealthShare and Christian Health Ministries often provide complete reimbursement for home birth with a midwife. You must have a plan in place prior to becoming pregnant (check individual plans for details and time limits).

  • Unfortunately most HMO’s do not provide out-of-network coverage with a midwife. Some families have had success by requesting a “Gap Extension” and extreme persistence. Learn how one family got their HMO insurance to provide complete coverage for their homebirth!

  • Lab work is usually covered for those with PPO and Medi-Cal coverage. We are able to draw your blood or collect specimen’s needed during the course of your care. HMO’s and Kaiser insurance plans do not cover labs.
